Everything We Know About the All-New 2026 Nissan LEAF
The all-new 2026 Nissan LEAF has arrived. Now a high-tech compact crossover with up to 488 km of range, dual fast-charging options, and class-leading EV performance, it’s built to handle life on Vancouver Island with ease.

The 2026 Nissan LEAF has been completely redesignedboth inside and out—by a new generation of electric vehicle owners. Arriving at Nissan of Nanaimo this Fall 2025, this next-gen EV has been reimagined as a sleek, high-tech compact crossover, designed specifically for Vancouver Island roads, weather, and lifestyle.

With dramatic
increases in range, roominess, fast-charging capacity, cold-weather durability, and technology, the 2026 LEAF is set to be one of Canada's most appealing fully electric choices.

Crossover Comfort Meets EV Confidence

Bye-bye quirky hatchback design. Hello, new LEAF's sleek, aerodynamic compact crossover styling that embodies Nissan's leading-edge vision for intelligent mobility.

Following the CMF-EV architecture shared with volume leader Nissan Ariya and other Alliance EVs, the 2026 LEAF boasts a stretched wheelbase, broader stance, and much lower drag coefficient of just 0.26 Cd. This squanders less energy on air resistance and directs more into range and performance.

This more substantial frame
offers a roomier cabin space for passengers and cargo, as well as making the new LEAF much more practical option for family users, commuters, and weekend explorers throughout Vancouver Island.

Impressive Electric Range for Daily Use and Island Exploring

One of the key improvements in the 2026 LEAF is its longer range on electric power. Featuring a 75 kWh liquid-cooled battery pack, the LEAF S+ version is projected to provide up to 488 kilometers (303 miles) of driving range on a full charge. That's almost 100 km more than the old LEAF Plus and well enough for the average Vancouver Island drivers' daily schedules without a need to recharge.

Range estimates are subject to Canadian testing but preliminary indications are that this model will rank among the leaders in real-world efficiency.

The standard single
front-mounted electric motor is equipped with 214 horsepower and 261 lb-ft of torque, offering instant acceleration with no tailpipe emissions.

Quick, Convenient Charging Wherever You Roam

The 2026 Nissan LEAF boasts ultra-fast DC charging up to 150 kW, allowing drivers to top off from 10 to 80 percent in approximately 35 minutes—ideal for quick refueling during road trips or running errands.

Nissan
also expanded charging compatibility. For the first time ever, the LEAF includes a J1772/CCS-type port and a NACS (North American Charging Standard) port. The two-port design enables the use of even more public charging points, such as Tesla Superchargers, Petro-Canada EV charging points, BC Hydro fast charging points, and more.

For home charging, the vehicle
is equipped with Level 2 AC charging, making it easy to plug in overnight and wake up to a fully charged battery every morning.

Peaceful, High-Tech and Spacious Interior

Inside the cabin, Nissan has set a new standard for comfort and connectivity. The 2026 LEAF features two different infotainment options:

S and S+
variants are equipped with a pair of 12.3-inch screens, one for the driver's digital instrument cluster and one for the central touchscreen.

SV+ and Platinum+
variants upgrade to 14.3-inch displays, offering split-screen multitasking, crisp graphics, and instant access to navigation, media, and system settings.

All models include wireless Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™, with native Google apps (
Maps, Assistant, and Play Store) on higher trims. Two USB-C ports up front, rear charging ports, and available wireless device charging allow versatility for all occupants.

The LEAF
introduces a segment-first electrochromic panoramic roof, on the Platinum+ trim level. This groundbreaking glass roof allows drivers to adjust opacity for shade and privacy at the touch of a button. Sustainably sourced interior materials are durable and comfortable, with optional Bose headrest speakers, 64-colour ambient lighting that can be personalised, and flat-folding seats for increased cargo space.

Although official cargo capacities are yet to be revealed, Nissan cites significantly more interior space from the previous hatchback thanks to the brand newcrossover body style and the EV-specific flat floor platform.

Safety and Driver Assistance Features Work Seamlessly

Nissan continues to lead in safety innovation with the inclusion of Nissan Safety Shield 360 across all 2026 LEAF trims. Standard features include:

Forward Collision Warning with Pedestrian Detection

Lane Departure Warning and Lane Keep Assist

Blind Spot Warning with Intelligent Blind Spot Intervention

Rear Cross Traffic Alert

Rear Automatic Braking

High Beam Assist

SV+ and Platinum+ models come equipped with the latest ProPILOT Assist system, which combines adaptive cruise control with hands-on lane centering to reduce stress in highway driving. These trims also offer 360-degree Around View® Monitoring, an Invisible Hood View for close quarters, and Front Wide View Mode for parking or pulling out into traffic.

Built for Island Roads and Coastal Weather

Whether you're cruising through mountain passes, running errands on our soggy coastal streets, or simply making a trip to the grocery store, the 2026 LEAF inspires confidence under any circumstances.

The vehicle
's battery pack has enhanced thermal management with:

-Integrated battery heater for winter capability
-Heat-pump cabin climate system for efficiency-coupled warmth
-Waste heat recovery system to optimize efficiency in winter

These upgrades ensure dependable range and driving comfort even when temperatures drop, making the LEAF a strong choice for Vancouver Island’s variable climate.
